Brad was trained as a population and community ecologist, receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Washington. In his 17-plus years with WSU Extension, he has led the Extension offices in both King and Pierce County, Washington State’s two most populous counties. In 2015 he helped found WSU’s Metropolitan Center for Applied Research and Extension. He is also the founding director of the Western Center for Metropolitan Extension and Research (WCMER), comprised of nine land-grant university Extension programs, and helped establish the National Urban Extension Leaders network. He is recognized for his systems-based approach to problem solving, and his ability to build collaborative partnerships. Brad often provides leadership on Center projects related to environmental stewardship, sustainability and economic development.
