Yakima Equity Study Analysis

Yakima, WA

In 2016, the City of Yakima began a process to address the equitable distribution of City resources. To initiate this process, the city compiled data from a variety of sources, including the US Census Bureau, Washington State Office of Financial Management, Yakima County Assessor, and the City of Yakima, among others, and visualized it into an interactive GIS (Graphic Information System) program. The result, called the Equity Study allows users to review that data across the City of Yakima’s seven council districts.

The Metro Center was brought in by the City of Yakima as an independent and impartial Yakima building at nightresource to conduct an evaluation and statistical analysis of the data compiled for the Equity Study. The Metro Center’s analysis will assess any relationships between data, and will help the City understand the current distribution of City resources across geography and demographics.

WSU Expertise

The Metro Center has assembled a team of experts in data analysis, GIS science methodology, and urban design and planning to implement the project. A final report will be presented to the Yakima City Council by the end of 2017.
